Rest period for strength gains

Rest period between sets plays a vital role in achieving your goals in the gym. A great workout requires energy in order to go maximal on the weights. The body’s energy systems are designed in such a way that you can optimally utilize them for shorter periods of time if used in a particular way. During heavy lifting period much of the energy produced by the body comes from the ATP-CP system or Adenosine Triphosphate Phosphocreatine system. This system makes use of the phosphagen for energy without the presence of oxygen.

The phosphagen it used for energy is actually very limited in store in the human body. The limited stores of phosphagen lasts upto 15-16 seconds. While this phosphagen later gets replenished in the body, but it takes a good 2-3 minutes for it to get replenished. Hence during
heavy intense workouts, it is advisable to wait at least 3 minutes in between sets to train at maximal capacities and product ample energy for every set
